Send off 2009 and usher in 2010 with NSO

Performances of Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 9 in D Minor, ‘Choral,’ Op. 125” will be the National Symphony Orchestra’s way of sending off the old year 2009 and ushering in the New Year 2010 at the National Concert Hall in Taipei. There will be a New Year’s Eve countdown on December 31 and it will be followed by a waltz party.

Guenther Gerbig will conduct the musicians at 10 p.m. on December 31, 2009, and at 7:30 p.m. on January 1, 2010. Soprano Chu Tai-li, mezzo-soprano Chen Pei-chi, tenor Steven Harrison, and bass Liau Chong-boon will be the soloists of the vocal parts taken from Fridrich Schiller’s inspiring poem, “Ode to Joy.”

Gerbig will give an eye-opening lecture about Beethoven’s symphony from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on December 27 at the NSO’s rehearsal room on the third floor of the National Concert Hall.
